Spring Flower Fields in Ontario
Although there are earlier spring flowers like daffodils and crocuses, when the tulips start to bloom, for me at least, it’s a sure sign that spring has arrived. The most popular flower fields in Southern Ontario are the pick-your-own tulips. And is there anything better than wandering through the colourful fields, while picking your favourites to bring home to brighten your week?
The tulip fields listed below are in the Niagara region. They tend to open the last weekend of April, but a cold start to spring results in delays. Check their websites every year for the official open date.
Sarah Grey Tulip Experience

Sarah Grey is a family-run tulip farm two hours from Toronto and half an hour from Niagara Falls. Every year, they plant 2 million tulips. Your entry ticket gives you unlimited time in the field, photo display spots, and free parking. Plus, you can bring home ten tulips that you pick.
What sets Sarah Grey apart from others is the unique workshops they offer, such as Tulip Stained Glass, Painting, and even a Sound Bath. If you want to visit with fewer people, you can book a special spot for photographers at Golden Hour.
Suggest that you book your tickets online in advance and wear your prettiest spring outfit.
LOCATION: 1415 Balfour Street, Fenwick, Ontario. HOURS: Monday, 10 am – 8 pm, Tuesday & Wednesday, 10 am – 5:30 pm, Thursday & Friday, 10 am – 8 pm, Saturday & Sunday, 9 am – 8 pm.
TASC Tulip Pick Farm
Probably one of Ontario’s most popular flower fields, with over three million tulips and cute photo spots. TASC sells out quickly, especially on weekends and Mother’s Day. It’s just 20 minutes from Niagara Falls, and less than 10 minutes from the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Plan ahead and book an online reservation. The first weekend in May is generally the safest choice to guarantee rows of colourful tulips in full bloom. Consider making a weekend of it! Stay at the historic Prince of Wales Hotel. Have your morning coffee at Balzac Coffee Roasters, housed in a mustard yellow building that was once the town’s train station. And take in some live theatre at the Shaw Festival. Kind of the perfect spring weekend!

LOCATION: 1173 Line 3 RD, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. HOURS: Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 8 pm, and Friday through Sunday, 8 am to 9 pm.
Roadside Flower Market

This small flower field is a charmer. They planted their first tulip field in 2024 but have been running a roadside flower stand for years. I love the family vibe and friendly service. I’m sure that this place will become more popular with time, but I was able to drive up and buy a ticket. But would strongly suggest booking online if you plan to visit on the weekend. If I could only go to one tulip field, it would be Roadside Flower Market.
Bonus!! My favourite winery, 13th Street Winery, is just two minutes away. Their wines are amazing, and they have the BEST butter tarts!! Their Vineyard Kitchen Bistro is open from May to October and is one of my favourite brunch spots. A must-visit!!
LOCATION: 1923 Seventh Street Louth, Catharines, Ontario. HOURS: Monday through Sunday, 9 am—8:30 pm.
Royal Botanical Gardens – Rock Garden
I’m not going to lie, but I am a HUGE fan of the Royal Botanical Gardens, so I will never stop trying to convince you to visit. While not a flower field, the Rock Gardens have lovely displays of tulips every spring. It’s a year-round spot, but in April and May, expect tulips and daffodils, especially near the glass pavilion.
The Rock Garden Bistro located at the pavilion, is the prettiest lunch spot. There are some indoor tables, but the outdoor patio is THE spot! Book a table in advance, especially if you want to indulge in their yummy Sunday Brunch.
LOCATION: 1185 York Boulevard, Hamilton, Ontario. HOURS: Opening times change seasonally. Check here to time your visit.

Summer Flower Fields in Ontario
An Ontario summer can be lush, green and hot! But there is something peaceful about escaping the heat in a garden. I often return to the Rock Garden at the Royal Botanical Gardens to sit by the water feature and look for frogs sunning themselves on waterlilies. But I also get excited about roses and sunflowers. Here are a few of my favourite gardens and flower fields to visit each summer in Ontario.
Rose Collection at Hendrie Park

The Royal Botanical Garden’s Rose Collection at Hendrie Park is magical. The garden was updated in 2018 with cold-hardy rose bushes that can survive Canadian winters. But what makes it extra special are the companion plants, like Allium, Butterfly Weed, and Lavender, which provide health benefits to the roses and add pops of colour to the garden.
While rose season is longer than other blossoms listed here, starting in June and stretching into September, the roses peak in June at the RBG Rose Garden. Ideally, plan your visit for mid-June.
Make your visit extra special by booking a table at the Tea House at the Turner Pavilion. It would be hard to find a prettier spot than this glasshouse set amidst the rose garden. Book well in advance, as the place is small and fills up quickly.
LOCATION: 680 Plains Road West, Burlington, Ontario HOURS: Opening times change seasonally. Check here to time your visit.
Howell’s Adventure Farm
Howell’s Adventure Farm is family-focused. You could spend hours here! The sunflower fields are amazing, and a ticket includes a pick-your-own bouquet of sunflowers and zinnias. I went for the sunflowers, but had a blast with my niece going down the giant slide and playing on the giant jumping pillow.
While kid-focused, Howell’s Summer and Fall Fire Pits are a fun evening for adults. Enjoy your own campfire. Each fire pit can accommodate up to ten people, and you can purchase add-ons like the Roasting Kit, which includes hot dogs and all the fixings, plus s’mores!! Roasting stick, napkins, and cutlery are included. They also have a bar and kitchen where you can get other goodies like poutine and butter tarts.
Howell’s is the funnest flower field in Ontario, which keeps luring me back every year.

LOCATION: 2878 Holland Road, Fonthill, Ontario. HOURS: Hours and days open change depending on what is in bloom. Check out their calendar with hours here.
Brantwood Farms

I love visiting Brantwood Farms, a family farm for over 100 years. Their farm stand sells only Canadian-grown and produced goods. Starting with asparagus in the spring, all the way to pumpkins in the fall. Their Sunflower Fest is an annual event on the first two weekends of August. It’s dog-friendly, with wagon rides, pick-your-own bouquets, and of course, gorgeous fields of sunflowers, along with amazing photo spots.
LOCATION: 251 Powerline Rd. Brantford, Ontario. HOURS: Hours and days open change depending on the season. Check out their hours here.
Urquhart Butterfly Garden
Every summer, I spend a lot of time in the Urquhart Butterfly Garden in Dundas, Ontario. It’s lush, a little wild, and an incredibly beautiful spot. I am super grateful to the volunteers who maintain the garden, which attracts the most amazing butterflies.
It’s named after Canadian entomologists Frederick and Norah Urquhart, who researched monarch butterflies for decades. Some of their amazing discoveries include that monarch butterflies never fly at night or over open water and can fly up to 130 kilometres a day.
It’s free to visit, and they offer interpretive nature walks. Plus they have an annual photography contest. While I think my iPhone photos are quite nice, I am always blown away by the winners.

LOCATION: East side of Centennial Park, Dundas, Ontario. HOURS: Dawn to dusk.
If you can’t get enough of flower gardens, then check out Lavender Fields in Ontario. The perfect spot to visit in July to walk amongst the fragrant purple rows.
